Bognor Is Definitely NOT Britain’s Worst Seaside Town!
When Which? released a report labelling Bognor Regis as Britain’s worst seaside town, the tabloids jumped on it. The headlines were brutal, and it hurt to see our home dismissed so easily. Enough is enough.
That is why we are sharing a different perspective. Wendell, who runs a travel YouTube channel, saw the same reports and decided to visit Bognor for himself. His video is worth watching because, after spending time here, he found that the town is not what the headlines claimed. In fact, he concludes it is not Britain’s worst seaside town at all.
Of course, Bognor like any seaside town has its problems. Wendell is honest in his video, showing both the positive and the less glamorous sides of the town. The decline of traditional high streets, the seasonal nature of tourism, and the pressures faced by many coastal communities are real. These are challenges that cannot be ignored.
Yet what struck Wendell most was not the issues, but the spirit of the people who live here. Grandads Front Room, a community café and charity shop, became a symbol of what makes Bognor special. It reflects the kindness, resilience, and togetherness of the community. That sense of heart is what makes this town far greater than a few negative headlines.
There is more to Bognors culture than critics admit. The town has an incredible live music scene most weekends, especially in pubs like The Hothampton Arms (locals call it The Hoff). One of the people Wendell interviewed even mentioned he has played gigs there. That energy, with local musicians, friendly crowds and proper pub nights, is part of what keeps the town alive and welcoming.
Bognor Regis has so much going for it. The seafront is a place for families to gather, the community is welcoming, and local initiatives are constantly breathing life back into the town. There is an authenticity here that visitors often remark upon, a feeling that while the town is not perfect, it is real and it belongs to the people who love it.
That is why we are proud to stand up for Bognor. Reports and quick headlines may sell papers, but they do not tell the full story. The full story is one of a town that has weathered storms, continues to face challenges, but never loses its heart. We are proud of our town and will keep saying it, Bognor is not Britains worst seaside town.
Come and see for yourself why Bognor is worth celebrating.
